At Altratech, we use fringe-field capacitive sensing in our technology; the same principle used in every smartphone, where electrodes beneath the glass screen detect your finger above the glass.
Our proprietary digital CMOS sensor uses uses fringe-field capacitive sensing for detection and quantification of beads on its surface. These beads are a proxy for the analyte captured on the bead surface in the upstream assay: antibody, antigen, DNA or RNA in the patient’s sample.
The sensing electrodes are in the top metal layer of a standard foundry digital CMOS chip, shielded beneath a tough silicon-nitride protective layer, This is the same principle used in every smartphone, where electrodes beneath the glass screen detect a finger above the glass.
